About the Book : Public health services especially in underdeveloped countries generally stand for providing quality treatment at low/zero cost against the diseases/illnesses and preventing occurrence of diseases/illnesses through creating facilities like immunization, safe drinking water and sanitation, etc. These services are an important catalyst of a wide-ranging development of the economy on the one hand, and may lead to a favourable redistribution of income and equalization of opportunities among different sections of the society on the other. Moreover, the continuously increasing cost of health care coupled with the growth of egalitarian dimensions, i.e. all people should have an equal access to health facilities, has spurred economist and other social scientists to study health services from different angles. Growing significance of health services and related aspects have become a topic of widespread interest and research among economists. Title : Urban Migration, Poverty, Reduction and Climate Change in Asia
View Detail
Author / Editor : Priyaka Deshmukh Rs. 1950
About the Book : The present book brings together bold visions, in-depth analyses and innovative approaches to urban migration and its impact on poverty reduction and climate change in Asia. From the presentation of this book, it can be concluded that the combined effect of the three outstanding forces of recent times— migration, poverty and climate change— usually accompanies social and economic development, but rapid urban growth on today’s scale strains the capacity of local and national governments to provide even the most basic of services. There are different dimensions of migrant exclusiveness based on class, gender composition, their land and property rights, their place of origin and so on. Allowing people to freely move to the cities can help a nation's economic development experience, with better lives for all, including women.

Title : Urbanisation and Urban Poverty in Developing Countries
View Detail
Author / Editor : Robert Antoinette Rs. 2450
About the Book : The present book “Urbanisation and Urban Poverty in Developing Countries” examines the role of gender participation in urbanisation and urban development and its impact on poverty reduction. Urbanisation involves major shifts in the ways people work and live, and offers unprecedented opportunities for improved standards of living as well as better environmental sustainability. Urbanization is also associated with gender-related transformations such as the greater engagement of women in paid employment, linked with a wider range of opportunities than in rural areas. This, in turn, has demographic implications including a decline in fertility levels decline in fertility levels, often higher proportions of women in the overall urban population, and a concentration of women-headed households in urban centres. At the same time, cash based urban economies mean that poor women are compelled, often from a very young age, to also engage in paid activities. In many instances this involves work in the lowest-paid formal and informal sector activities which, at times of economic crises, require increasingly long hours for the same income. Combined with cuts in the public provision of services, higher costs for food, water and transport, efforts to balance paid work and unpaid care work take a growing toll on women. A gendered perspective of urban poverty reveals the significance of non-income dimensions such as time poverty. It also highlights fundamental issues of equality and social justice by showing how women’s unequal position in urban labour market, their limited ability to secure assets independently from male relatives and their greater exposure to violence. Author has been conveyed comprehensive information in a simple non-technical way, and hope the subject-matter he has selected will be useful for students, and teacher of urban studies.

Title : E-commerce Taxation: Prospects and Challenges
View Detail
Author / Editor : Nina Verma Rs. 900
About the Book : E-commerce taxation is a major concern for international agencies and tax authorities worldwide. In its most advanced form, e-commerce allows unidentified purchasers to pay obscure vendors in 'electronic cash' for products that are often goods, services and licences all rolled into one. A payee may be no more than a computer that can take up 'residence' anywhere; national boundaries are of no consequence whatsoever. The current debate over taxation of e-commerce has, to some extent, been little more than a rehash of a similarly inconclusive scholarly and legislative debate that raged over mail-order sales during the 1980s. However, in the case of e-commerce, the added question is how to reconcile national fiscal boundaries with the borderless world of the internet. It is hoped that it would work as a very important source of information for the student of commerce, taxation and management.
